Preparations underway for third Meeting of the Committee on Governance and Popular Participation

ECA Press Release 10/2013 

Addis Ababa, 19 February 2013 (ECA) - Preparations for the third Meeting of the Committee on Governance and Popular Participation are underway on the theme “The Developmental State: What options for Africa?”. The meeting, an initiative of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its Governance and Public Administration Division, is scheduled to be held from 20-21 February 2013 at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to the organizers, the main objectives of the conference are to; first review and consider the ECA’s activities in the area of Governance and Public Administration and to suggest relevant programmatic orientations and activities for the 2014/2015 period. Then, the Committee will discuss and suggest how the ECA could improve its activities to enhance Africa’s capacity in the areas of governance and public administration.

Based on the discussions, conclusions and recommendations of the meeting it is expected that the ECA, through its Governance and Public Administration Division, will enhance its working modalities through research and analytical work, advisory services, technical assistance to member States, and training and sensitization programs at regional, sub-regional and national levels. These activities will be undertaken with full involvement of government, private sector, civil society, governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as with development partners.

The meeting will bring together government, private sector and civil society representatives from across Africa.
